Quincy Jones and a well-known pair of female vocalists are the force behind Stuff Like That, which kicks off the mix. The Jacksons' The Things I Do For You continue the vibe, leading right into Cheryl Lynn's Encore. Chuckii Booker and Troop continue with their solid tracks with Don't You Know I Love You (check out the video here) and Keep You Next To Me, segueing into Michael's Baby Be Mine from Thriller, which is celebrating it's 25th anniversary this year. The Jamaica Boys (Marcus Miller, Lenny White, and Mark Stevens - who has a sister named Yvette Stevens - marinate on that) give us the wonderful Let Me Hold You Closer (Don't Fight It). Lindsey Buckingham (remember Fleetwood Mac), drops into the blend with Trouble, leading us into Daybreak's Everything Man, which should be recognizable to those who have heard Talib Kweli's Eardrum CD (which is also one of my top 10 CDs of 2007).
Ray Parker, Jr. drops the instrumental After Midnight, while Maze drops Golden Time of Day (happy belated birthday to Mr. Beverly). Karyn White's Nobody But My Baby leads right into The Gap Band and Atlantic Starr. The final tracks ending this blend are After 7's Truly Something Special and PM Dawn's I'd Die Without You. As usual, there are several requests pending that will be featured on next week's OSW. Of course, as usual, there's more in the podcast, so if you're so inclined, download and listen. For those who'd like to subscribe to these podcasts, use this link. (Note: the feed will have to manually be entered into iTunes - working on getting an iTunes feed as we speak, so thanks for your patience). If you have requests, send an email to ejflavors [@] gmail [.] com. Take it light!

ENCORE!!!!! Oh, man..The New York Hot Tracks Days....or rather nights on ABC. A bit before Darnell Williams and Debbie Morgan of All My Children fame....I'm talking about Carlos Dejesus from radio station WKTU!
He was interviewing Cherl Lynn on the show and he, like I could not understand the chorus, where it goes'Your love (You're so good) You deserve an Encore (Dee-serves an Encore!)
He told her that (and I'm paraphrasing) "I though you were saying..Ooohh, oooh, Jesus!!!! It was a funny moment. Because he truly though she was saying that. Not taking the name in vain. It was a great memory! All the more I wish Jam and Lewis would output more of this material for the 2000's!
Keeping it all video I remember the Jamaica Boys had a video that I believe was directed by Robert Townsend featuring Jasmine Guy. I forget the song, I think it was called that "Loving Feeling" not too sure
but this track is tight..and makes me think of the video that I would catch on Video Music BOX on UHF channel 31.
Cool Chuckii man. It was cool hearing Cali R&B in the late 80's early 90's amongst The New Jack Swing.
Lindsey! LOL! I love these soft rock joints Man. Makes me think of
watching the Bad News Bears and Convoy at the Drive In theater with my family. LOVE IT! (Anybody know if Drive Ins still exist?!?)
Good stuff for Michael J. I don't think (and maybe it's because it's maybe a month or so early) he is geting enough recognition from the media in regards to his work and the influence of Thriller which is still felt today 25 years after the fact. Not just music but the presentation, the concept video, chart dominance, style, personae and more.
Along with Quincy Jones, Rod Temperton and a cast of talented musicians and vocalist Michael turned the tide on a lot of things.
Much credit due.
Great selections EJ. Please pardon my wordiness ya'll!
Pce.!
Another fine set of music to start off my Wednesday with. Love the Quincy, Cheryl Lynn, Maze and Jamaica Boys, but for my money the star of the mix is Daybreak and "Everything Man"! Whoo-Hoo! Now that track is hot!
What, no Sheila E.? Your girl turns the big 5-0 and you give her no dap? Shocking!
*downloads podcast hoping he at least mentions her*
Bless you EJ. **hugz**
01 - Quincy Jones - Stuff Like That - I didn't recognize this song until the break. Wow. You went back.
02 - The Jacksons - Things I Do For You - Not the strongest track but definitely a departure from the rest of the album. I remember it made a little radio splash.
03 - Cheryl Lynn - Encore - Classic. 'Nuff said.
04 - Chuckii Booker - (Don't U Know) I Love You - I know he's doing his arranging thing with Lionel Richie and all but it would be nice to hear something from him. "Games" was way back in '92!
05 - Troop - Keep You Next To Me - They needed to continue recording.
06 - Michael Jackson - Baby Be Mine - The R&B sleeper that never appealed to the pop/rock crowd. Glad we got to keep that and "The Lady In My Life" to ourselves. I can't wait to pick up the 25th Anniversary Edition in February.
07 - Jamaica Boys - Let Me Hold You Closer (Don't Fight It) - Anything with Marcus Miller on the bass gets my attention.
08 - Lindsey Buckingham - Trouble - Ooh, nice switchup. You a sly devil, mayne...
09 - Daybreak - Everything Man - Nice tribute to the Eardrum original.
10 - Ray Parker Jr. - After Midnight - How did I miss this one?
11 - Maze - Golden Time of Day - Frankie's the man.
12 - Karyn White - Nobody But My Baby - I won't tell anybody that you tried to sneak in a Flyte Tyme track without mentioning it. Oops, I guess i just did...
13 - The Gap Band - Wednesday Lover - People forget that Uncle Charlie used to smoove it out back in the day. Teach the kids he's not just about Pharrell, Snoop, and JT!
14 - Atlantic Starr - Am I Dreaming - Nice rain effect!
15 - After 7 - Truly Something Special - I still think that's Babyface on that track but according to the credits, it's not. Hmmph...
16 - P.M. Dawn - I'd Die Without You - Man, where's my wife? This used to be our jam. Thanks bro!
Golden Time of Day is one of those cuts that you just smile and nod your head to because everything is right in your world.
EJ, another great set. Thanks. I will stop by simply echoing KB's comments, as I agree with all of them.
Peace
