OSW: The Magic Of You

When my imagination goes south, it sometimes takes emails and conversations to keep it going. Check it:

01 - Rafael Cameron - The Magic Of You
02 - The Jacksons - Everybody
03 - Denroy Morgan - I'll Do Anything For You
04 - Secret Weapon - Must Be The Music
05 - Stephanie Mills - What Cha Gonna Do With My Lovin'
06 - Patti Austin - The Heat of Heat
07 - Cameo - Back and Forth
08 - Faze-O - Riding High
09 - The Police - King of Pain
10 - Go West - Eye to Eye
11 - Deniece Williams - Free
12 - Kenny Loggins featuring Shanice - Love Will Follow (Live)
13 - Maysa - Peace of Mind
14 - Michael Franks with Brenda Russell- When I Give My Love To You

It's people like Dale who suggested that I put Raphael Cameron, Faze-O, and Denroy Morgan in the mix, which I was happy to do, particularly Raphael Cameron's cut, which I hadn't heard in more than 15 years. My friends from Chicagoland reminded me about Stephanie Mills, while Nikki caused me to place Michael Franks as the last track.

A discussion from last week which was based off of the simple question "what's your favorite Police track" is the impetus behind King Of Pain. While I was partial to the long version of Love Will Follow, someone inspired me to pick up the version with Shanice in it, and I'm glad I did. Special thanks to SD for the inspiration (and the video).

As usual, there's a little more in the podcast, so if you're so inclined, download and take a listen. Also, if you have any requests, please don't hesitate to drop me a line at ejflavors at gmail dot com. Take it light!

Love it! Early Jam and Lewis tracks....Patti Austin.

Funny, I heard Patti on NYC radio station WBAI and she was having fun saying how so many people said she sound just like Michael Jackson, especially on The Due album. She was like and I paraphrase "So much older than him. He sounds like me." Great interview.

Always loved that Stepanie Mills track. From 1979 I believe. Wow.

Kenny Loggins and Shanice did the classic 'Love Will Follow" justice..Live even.

The Jacksons' "Everybody'" is the jam. I don't know how many people did not know that The Jacksons produced this GREAT album.

Denroy Morgan, Cameo, Mchael Franks, Go West....So much good work here. Fantastic art and artist.

Thanks, Dude!

You know I am loving you...even more than I already did (which I thought was not possible)...for inserting King of Pain this week right?

There's a little black spot on the sun...todaaay.

Love,

Queen of Pain.

(sounds kinda twisted, doesn't it?)

EJ! You gotta know that Michael Franks is my 2nd favorite male singer of all time after Donald Fagen! You've been giving us Michael for 3 weeks straight and I'm loving it! I listened to Denroy Morgan on the way to work this morning. That Faze-O track has been sampled so many times and yet it still sounds fresh and new. This is a great list EJ, keep it up!

Wow! Pretty much ashamed to admit I had mostly forgotten about Rafael Cameron. But oh how quickly those memories came rushing back while listening to The Magic of You...1981...17 years old...Los Angeles, Calif...Senior year...Locke High School. Also great to hear Denroy's classic from that same year. Here's to everyone's favorite online DJ----EJ!
