05 - Greg Phillinganes - Behind the Mask

09 - 52nd Street - Never Give Up on You

12 - Vesta Williams - You Make Me Want To (Love Again)
13 - Force M.D.'s - Tender Love
14 - Michael Henderson - You Are My Starship
15 - LTD Featuring Jeffrey Osborne - Stranger

We start off with George Duke's I Want You For Myself, a stellar track sung by Lynn Davis. Yarbrough & Peoples' track Guilty continues with the ongoing vibe, leading right into Chic's bass man, Bernard Edwards, with a great track entitled Your Love Is Good To Me. We follow with the jammin' instrumental from Ray Parker, Jr. For Those Who Like To Groove.

Remember the well known keyboardist Greg Phillinganes? Behind The Mask was his signature cut from the 80s. We follow that up with Kathy Mathis' Late Night Hour and of course the well-known Kashif's Say Something Love. Will Downing chimes in with In My Dreams from his eponymous LP.

52nd Street's Never Give Up On You is a track from Children Of The Night that was rarely played. This, however, does not hold true for the next track, as the classic from Atlantic Star, When Love Calls, was one of the best- and most played- tracks of 1982. We mellow it even further with Jonathon Butler's Sarah, Sarah and Vesta's You Make Me Want To (Love Again). We then cap it off with a triple play- Force MDs Tender Love, Michael Henderson's You Are My Starship, and the wonderful closer from LTD, Stranger.

Take it light.

Hi EJ. Just getting to bed but decided to check out the OSW (there won't be much time for checking it out tomorrow). Very pleased with the selection. Kashif is here again (excellent!) His buddy Greg Phillinganes, too? Wow (Next time, please include their collaboration, Love Me All Over). The great George Duke also makes a rare appearance.

To top it all off, you include my favorith JB track, Sarah Sarah. It's gonna be a short but good night after listening to these tracks.

Thank you.
Peace

Remember how Ray Parker Jr. used to have those instrumental jams on each album, and how those were some of the best songs of the season. The one you have here was a skate jam for sure!!!

As usual it brings back the good memories.

Ray Parker Jr's "For Those.." is just the Jam. Yarbrough and Peoples..Yes!

I did not know Bernard Edwards did some solo stuff. Cool!

Atlantic Star...Wow. I always dug them before the "Always" days...I believe thw vocalist before then was Sharon Bryant.

Kashif - Alwyas!

Kicking ot off with George was just right.

Between listning here and watching the Classic Soul Train I'm in a musical utopia!

Thanks!

P.S. -

If you see multiple entirs for this my computer was just giving me trouble....Great, great material, Man.

Ah, October looks like its going to be a very good month around here! Let's see... George's "I Want You For Myself", Greg Phillinganes(!), Force M.D.'s, Michael's version of "Starship" and my favorite out of the whole mix, Atlantic Starr's "When Love Calls". Whew! That one reminds me of the days hanging out with my boy Owen up on 155th & Amsterdam in the City! We used to run from Harlem to Da Bronx to The Village and back again.

Good stuff, Mr. Flavors, good stuff!

I now remember it too. Hearing some things in the song always reminded me of Michael Jackson..one of my Brothers favorite artist...and I discovered
how and why when I went to Discogs -

An uncredited production by MJ himself. Nice!

Hey EJ! The George Duke and Greg Phillinganes tracks were FLY! I don't think I've ever heard Greg sing before, I always saw him as a "behind-the-scenes" man. I've never heard either track before. I love your music lessons!
