THe more Todd and I talked about summer songs, the easier it was to come up with some classic that emphasized the summer. We've got some songs that bring back memories, like Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince's Summertime and of course Heatwave's Send Out For Sunshine, there's even more stuff that I hadn't heard in a good while, like Teena's Sunny Skies, Chic's A Warm Summer Night, and Stevie's Summer Soft. While I was granted the great start-off track Sun Is Here by JRK, Todd jumped in and provided this wonderful track from Grover Washington Jr, Summer Song.
Along with two of the greatest instrumentals ever made (remember Sun Goddess and Summer Madness? Sure you do), Twennynine, Central Line, and Deee-Lite keep the pace and give something for everyone, while Phyllis, Real Thing, Rick James and Leo mellow you out as only they can.
I think the three songs that stand out to me the most are the Grover Washington, Jr. track for its nice buildup and the instrumentals from Kool and the Gang and Ramsay Lewis that constantly remind me how those days were. Happy Independance day to all! Take it light!
Hey, the only thing you needed to put on here was Central Line...But you followed up with Ramsey and Kool!!?!!?! NICE!!!!!!
The horns on Central Line is beyond words! This track always come up smelling fresh. A classic through and through.
Love it!!!!!!
"Summertime" by Jazzy Jeff and Fresh Prince...Summer has officially started!
: )
Didn't we do this a couple of summers ago? It doesn't matter. This is the penultimate set of "summer" songs. Truly summer madness.
Great mix! A neat addition also would have been "Sunrise" by Slick. This mix is definitely a road trip pick!
This is smoking! I can feel the heat of summer again like I was in Rock Creek Park back in '77!
"A Warm Summer Night"... wow!
The best part of growing up in Southern California were those summer nights. That song always soothes and warms my soul.
Thanks EJ!
"Drums Please" The opening of 'Summertime' by DJ Jazzy Jeff And Fresh Prince - This song instantly puts me in a summer groove. Being from Philly I relate so much to this song. Thanks I was thinkin about doing this myself! You saved me lots of work
! My B.U.D.D.Y.
I'd love to hear that breakbeat "bubblegum" from 9th wonder, I think? It's the sample 'artifacts'
used on wrong side of the tracks.
I'm still on the look-out for that track, JR. I'll keep you posted.
Okay - did I just see "tamara and the seen?" NO WAY!!! NO WAY!!! OMG!!! I'm soooo going to try to find Affection tonite somewhere. I know I have it somewhere on some old CD. OMG I cannot BELIEVE you dug up Tamara and the SEen!!! How would I ever REMEMBER all these one-hit-wonders without you! LOL
