14 – Sheila E – Hold Me

This mix is definitely Sheila E., with tastes of the Minneapolis sound throughout the mix. Two of the most popular tracks from Sheila E., The Glamorous Life and Love Bizarre start off the mix, followed by Andre Cymone and Chaka Khan. The seldom-heard track from Jesse Johnson, Free World continues into a track from Jill Jones’ very underplayed and unappreciated eponymous CD called Mia Bocca.

Sheila E’s instrumental Shortberry Strawcake is followed by Sugar Walls and Uptown. Tevin Campbell’s Round and Round is followed by the popular hit from the Bangles written by Alexander Nevermind entitled Manic Monday. Wendy Melvoin and Lisa Coleman follow with a track from their first CD, Honeymoon Express, while a track from my personal favorite CD Sign of the Times follows with The Ballad of Dorothy Parker. The set ends with one of my all-time slow jams, hands down, Hold Me.

Special thanks go to Theresa and KB. Of course, as usual, there’s more in the podcast, so if you’re so inclined, download and listen to find out how the influence Ms Escovedo has on yours truly. Good stuff.
Going back to my years in 6-8th grade. Circa the summer(s) of 84-86
Strawberry Shortcake was a cool instrumental….My brother have it on vinyls glad to have it now in it’s new form. : )
I totally was oblivious to Wndy and Lisa’s first LP. Honeymoon Express is the joint.
Funny with the Tevin Campbell. I always felt his best stuff came from the writing/production team of Al B. Sure and Kyle West who I was hoping would turn into the Flyte Tyme of the 90′s.
Ballad of Dorothy P…I have been holding back b/c the record store in NYC have it still at PREMIUM PRICES..Ah, well..ya gonna make me bite the bullet..I gotta get this!!!!
Good memories again man. The mid 80′s was a beautiful time!
Happy Holidays to you EJ and to everyone here.
    Pce.

    What, no Koo Koo?

  6. EJ Flavors says:

Nope, no Holly Rock, no Sister Fate, no Coke Escovedo either. (See, this could have gone in so many directions.) No worries, this just makes it easier for the next couple of OSWs.

  8. Thierno says:

Another hot one, EJ. BTW, Happy B-day to Ms. Sheila E. The mix is tight, as always. I gotta agree with LIS, as the inclusion of The Ballad of Dorothy Parker masks the other tracks – LOL. Not that I am complaining. Thank, you, EJ.
    Peace

  9. MoniMoni says:
