J’s take on it? Read on….
Remember me? I used to blog at thebrotherlove.com. While on hiatus, I’ve taken refuge in my music. I was listening to most of these songs earlier this week when I yelled down the hall to EJ “Hey, I think I have your next OSW”. Membership has its privileges.
As I hinted in my last OSW, I listen to a lot of variety so putting together a playlist that’s not schizo can be a challenge for me. Stay with me, okay?
This time I start with classic The Art Of Noise. Everyone needs more Marvin Gaye in their life (other than the staples). “Stay With Me” brings back great memories as does “Who’s That Girl” and Johnny Gill. The Carole Davis is strictly for EJ (does anyone else remember her?) I switch gears and add some bass with A Tribe Called Quest, D’Angelo and Teena Marie.
Speaking of “groove”, Dee-Lite is just plain fun. En Vogue still sounds fresh while Sly Stone and Lenny Kravitz reminds us that black folks should use more rock in our songs today. Everyone loved Hall & Oates (“I Can’t Go For That” was my father’s favorite). But Peter Gabriel is probably the wild card here. I wrap it all up with a great slow song from Brownstone. So, it’s all good.
Enjoy.
