Starting out with Jackie Moore’s This Time Baby, a disco classic (thanks, Moni Moni!), we move right into David Joseph’s funky track You Can’t Hide. As I continued on with Starpoint’s It’s All Yours, which I hadn’t heard in quite some time, I had to follow with Chic’s Doin’ That Thing To Me, also from Chic-Ism. I’m sure that you heads out there are familiar with Divine Emotions, Pop Along Kid, and Madhouse’s instrumental 6.

During the last mix, I had left off Central Heating, so I felt that it needed to be represented here (especially since NinaMM mentioned it). Tony Toni Tone’s release Whatever You Want was a classic cut, sung by Dewayne Wiggins. KB suggested I pull out I Can’t Help It and I was glad to oblige.

Since Michael was out there, why not follow with DeBarge, Atlantic Starr, Anita Baker, and Teena to cap it off with Ooh La La La, right? Right. My favorite? Atlantic Starr segueing into Anita Baker. Lovin’ just dont stop right there.

Just after I put the last OSW mix up, I found out about Johnnie Wilder, Jr.’s untimely passing.
He was 56. What better way than to take time out this Wednesday to pay tribute to the man….

While most of these songs speak for themselves, there are tunes that keep the groove and are rarely heard such as Send Out For Sunshine and great tracks from the album Hot Property, such as One Night Tan, Razzle Dazzle, and Raise and Blaze. I would be remiss if I didn’t also feature tracks from the album Candles, like Turn Around, Posin’ Till Closin’, and the illustrious Where Did I Go Wrong?

It should also be noted that two of the more popular tracks often heard on Quiet Storm on a regular basis back in the day were written by Johnnie Wilder himself: Mind Blowing Decisions and Happiness Togetherness.

In my continuation of Shalamar, Right In The Socket starts off the groove, which leads into Phil Fearon’s I Can Prove It, complete with an infectious chant.
SOS Band’s Just The Way You Like It leads in and takes us back to the roller rink (remember the video?) I thought that since Michael Wycoff had been in two other OSWs, then why not bring him back for a third one with another groovin’ track, Still Got The Magic?

Chic’s High was one of my favorite tracks off of Chic-Ism, while Ashford and Simpson’s Bourgie Bourgie was one of the tracks introduced to me while i was in Philly last week (thanks Mr. Myke!) Compassion brings us right into Toto’s Africa, a track that someone requested and after hearing it again after 10 years, I can understand why. I tracked down The Deele’s Just My Luck, as well as Johnny Gill’s Feels So Much Better to segue into Jody Watley’s love song Everything and Tawatha’s lust song Thigh Ride. We finish off the set with Teena Marie’s absolutely, positively poignant If I Were A Bell.

I was feeling Ohio Players so it’s only natural that Heatwave, Parliament, and Slave would follow in sequence, right? Imagination’s Music And Lights has gotta be one of the funkiest tracks that never got significant airplay. Jody Watley’s Still A Thrill is my personal favorite off of her first album.

We bring back house music with arguably one of Mr. Fingers finest tracks he ever released, What About This Love? Culture Club’s Time (Clock Of The Heart) is one of the mainstays that I never get tired of, as is Raydio’s track. It’s all about Robbie Dupree’s Steal Away which is one of those tracks they used to play on Quiet Storm back in the day.

I followed up with Fleetwood Mac’s Everywhere which is one of my favorite songs from them, which fit well with Michael Franks’ Mr. Smooth. Wendy and Lisa’s Stay has always been one of the tracks from them I play constantly when I pick up their CD. Of course, you know I had to cap this off with a Teena Marie’s Dear Lover.

Somethin’ about music….it got into my pants…..

After a much needed vacation in Philly, I’m ready to drop it again…

Lakeside’s Your Love Is On The One kept me energized when I was trying to recover from my vacation. The Whisper’s It’s A Love Thing follows, which is then followed by Is This The Future, the mellow infectious groove from The Fatback Band, played at every party back in the day.

Royal Delite’s I’ll Be A Freak For You is special because I heard it exactly once back in the day, and could never track it down. I’m still on the Shalamar tip, so I had to drop Talk To Me, one of my faves from Go For It, co-written by Jody Watley. Junior’s Too Late is followed by Ace’s How Long which is a personal favourite. Ace is followed by Sade’s Nothing Can Come Between Us, accentuated with vocals from Leroy Osbourne.

Ramsey’s track is yet another one off of LateNightTales. Be warned that you’ll be hearing several cuts from Mr. Fingers, who is one of the founders of Chicago house music. Survivor is a perfect segue from Ramsey’s track, and is a perfect compliment to The Blackbyrd’s Soft and Easy. Fat Larry’s Zoom is followed by the underplayed gem from Loose Ends, So Where Are You. At the end is the mellow funky track from The Ohio Players, Heaven Must Be Like This.

I’m still coming down from the Philly Vibe from last weekend and I’ll be dropping some more of my discoveries very soon. Shoutouts to the finest people you’d ever wanna meet and who made my stay in Philly an awesome one- the one and only Philly Kat and the effervescent Mr. Myke. Groove with it.
